Cruise Myths.. Fact or Fiction???

These days most cruise ships are huge!  Like floating city size huge!  Cruise ships are designed for space and comfort with outdoor and indoor spaces to allow you to spread out and enjoy.  On the average you will walk about 15,000 to 17,000 steps a day on a cruise. (Which is good, since the buffets are All-You-Can-Eat!)

Let's put it this way... how much do you spend per night on a hotel room, while on vacation?  $200? $300? Even more for a really nice room? Did you know a lot of cruise ships cost less than $100 a night per person and that includes the room, the food, and most all of the activities on board?  When you realize and consider all that's included in your cruise fare, it really does fall in line or even work out better then traditional vacations. Plus you get to travel to different destinations without paying extra for them.

Every year, cruising is becoming more and more popular with younger guests and cruise lines are reflecting that in the way they are building the ships.  Designated areas for kids, as well as activities, entertainment, and attractions geared for younger guests. 

Cruise ships schedule an impressive array of onboard entertainment and activities. On any number of ships, you can shop, surf, skydive, rock climb, zipline, ice skate, play laser tag, splash in pools and elaborate water slides and enjoy deck parties. You can also enjoy virtual-reality simulations, learn to cook, go bowling, play video games, learn a new language, do a wine tasting, play trivia and attend enrichment lectures. (And that's only the dayside activities!!)

Cruise lines are doing more and more to provide not only activities but entire parts of the ship that are kid free. Adult areas include, but not are limited to, spas, pools, dining venues and adult specific activities. Some cruise lines even have adult only beach options at their private islands.

Or if you'd rather not encounter any children at all, there are ships (like P&O Cruise's Arcadia and Aurora) and cruise lines (Viking, Saga and Virgin Voyages among them) that do not allow children at all.

Cruise ship are now bigger then ever and equipped with the best and latest technologies.  Most cruise ship today are equipped with stabilizers that help keep the sailing smooth and the ship from rocking.  If you are prone to sea sickness and want to be safe, you can also try out remedies including acupressure bracelets, prescription patches you stick on the skin behind your ear and a plethora of tablets, both prescription and over-the-counter. Some cruisers also swear by peppermint, green apples and anything containing ginger (ginger candy, ginger ale, etc.).
